Welcome to NETHEA!
What is NETHEA?
NETHEA is the Northeast Tennessee regional branch of THEA (Tennessee Home Education Association). We serve homeschoolers in Washington, Greene, Sullivan, Johnson, Hawkins, Hancock, Unicoi, and Carter Counties.
NETHEA is not a school or umbrella school. If you are looking for an umbrella school and live in the Tri-Cities area we suggest you contact Wendy Lambert at Family Christian Academy of East TN in Blountville at 423-354-0203 or Angela Howard at New Hope Academy in Kingsport at 423-239-9700.
Why should I join NETHEA?
When you join NETHEA, you are supporting year-round work to keep homeschooling legal in Tennessee. Your membership also goes toward numerous local activities designed to encourage and assist local families along their homeschool journey.
What are some statewide activities that you support?
Lobbyists in Nashville work with legislators concerning family and homeschooling issues with an information network to keep all homeschoolers across the state aware of actions concerning our rights. We participate in events such as Rally Day, when homeschoolers from across the state go to Nashville to interact with lawmakers.
What are some local activities sponsored by NETHEA?
NETHEA sponsors events such as the area high school graduation ceremonies, spring and fall camping trips, an academic fair, geography bees, a huge used curriculum fair in late spring, area-wide Standardized testing for those interested in participating and more.
We are currently working on creating even more services, activities, events, discounts for NETHEA members, and more.
How can I help homeschoolers in Tennessee?
One of the best ways you can help support homeschooling in Tennessee is to join NETHEA. About half of your membership dues go THEA, which uses that money to promote activities that will encourage homeschool-friendly laws and oppose any legislation that threaten our homeschool freedoms.
